The Foundation

The Karl Schultz-Köln and Marita Mörck-Schultz Foundation was established with the primary purpose of preserving the memory of Karl and Marita and their work. Since 2010, the foundation has owned the property on Bryggeriholmen in Gnesta, where the foundation’s archives are located and the Art Lab Gnesta association conducts its artistic activities.

In 2026, the foundation purchased the Fagernäs property in Mölnbo, where the foundation’s archives and the Art Lab Gnesta association’s activities will be housed from 2027 onwards.

By this time, Marita had passed away, but Karl was actively involved in the move and lived during his last year in the signalman’s cottage behind the brewery building. In this way, he came to influence a large part of Art Lab Gnesta’s work in building up a residency program for artists. The visiting artists move straight into Karl and Marita’s household, complete with furniture, library, and household goods.

The foundation has also been involved in producing several exhibitions of Karl’s paintings and has published a book about his life and work. We are also supporting the production of a documentary film about Karl, which was started in 2012 by Mikael Lindahl. At the same time, work is underway to highlight Marita’s legacy. There is also an extensive archive here with the couple’s sketches, works, letters, and other belongings preserved.
